Plant Description : |
- Honey is a substance produced by bees from the nectar of plants. It is used as a medicine.
- In myths and folk medicine, honey has been used both orally and topically to treat various ailments including gastric disturbances, ulcers, skin wounds, and skin burns by ancient Greeks, Egyptians and in Ayurveda and traditional Chinese medicine.
-
Not all honeys have significant antibacterial properties; however, research has identified the New Zealand Leptospermum (Manuka honey) and Australian jellybush honey as having potent activity.
-
The honey to be used as a topical wound-healing agent or dermatological treatment should ideally be sterile and tested for clinical activity.
